104 Helplinne Service in Tamilnadu

Friends

On Social medias you may have seen a message of "Blood on Call" in '104' Helpline.

Probably something like,

“From Today onwards, '104' is going to be a special number for blood requirements. "Blood on Call" is the name of the service. On calling this number, the required blood will be delivered within 4 hours within a radius of 40 km. The cost would be Rs.450/- per bottle plus an additional charge of Rs.100 for transportation.”
I think it’s a misinterpretation from the initiative of Maharashtra state Govt. Help line service.

However the same “104” helpline is available in tamilnadu through which the public can get medical advice, information about first aid, HIV and counselling for mental health.
It’s an initiative of Health System Project, this service is being run by public private partnership with GVK-Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI), which also operates the ‘108’ Ambulance Services in the State

About 104:
While it looks like any other call centre, the major difference is that the phones are manned by doctors, staff nurses and qualified counsellors.
The primary objective of the helpline is to provide the caller with the immediate home remedies for most aliments such as vomiting and minor injuries.
A team of doctors have been deployed exclusively to man the helpline.
However, if they feel that a physical intervention is required the caller will be immediately referred to a hospital and the call transferred to 108 Emergency Response services.
